The scholarship seeks to assist with educational expenses so that all Canadian students with a journalism background can be encouraged and supported. In addition, the scholarship program aims to assist students in preparing for a career in data journalism.
Other Criteria
The CAJ Data Journalism Scholarship by Investintech is available for students demonstrating an interest in data journalism. Eligible candidates should meet the following criteria: pursuing a diploma, undergraduate, or graduate degree, displaying evidence of journalism skills (such as a published news story or work for a college publication), and currently accepted or enrolled in a Canadian college or university. The winning entry will showcase strong data analysis skills and effective storytelling. Submissions must include a journalism piece demonstrating data skills, incorporating at least one data visualization created by the student. Applicants should provide details on their methodology, resources used, and data compilation process. For group projects, individuals must clarify their role, skills applied, and their impact on specific aspects of the story. Eligible work should be produced within one year of the scholarship closing date. While individual submissions are preferred, team efforts require a detailed explanation of the applicant’s contribution and proof of work. Previous winners are ineligible to apply.
