As per the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a mere 2.8% of parliamentarians worldwide are under 30, with only 18.8% below 40. In about 74% of upper chambers, there are no representatives under 30, posing a significant risk of disengaging an entire generation from political processes.
In response to this, the One Young World Politician of the Year Award was established in 2018 to acknowledge outstanding young politicians aged 18-35 globally. Winners are chosen based on their positive impact in their home countries and their efforts to benefit young people. This inaugural global award aims to address the low level of youth engagement in politics.
