University of British Columbia scholarship Benefits:
The PSI Fellowship provides financial support of up to $10,000 twice, totaling $20,000 per student. This initiative aims to facilitate creative and collaborative academic endeavors that students might otherwise find challenging to pursue. The funding offers flexibility in its utilization and falls under two main categories:
- Research Allowance: This component allows for financial support towards professional development or travel directly linked to scholarly endeavors. It covers expenses associated with research, conference participation, or any other activities contributing to the advancement of the proposed project.
- Student Stipend: In instances where a student’s current funding does not allow for involvement in alternative projects, the PSI Fellowship can allocate funds for a student stipend. This ensures that students possess the necessary financial resources to concentrate on their proposed alternative project(s) without facing financial constraints.
Eligibility Requirements:
Doctoral students at UBC Vancouver, encompassing PhD, EdD, DMA, and part-time PhD students, in their initial to fifth years, along with doctoral students at UBC Okanagan in their first to fifth years, can apply for funding support.
- Eligible candidates should have completed a doctoral program within a maximum timeframe of 48 months by August 31, 2023, and must be officially enrolled in a UBC doctoral program by September 1, 2023. Exceptions for applicants in their sixth year (comprising 48 to 60 months of doctoral study) will only be considered in exceptional cases.
- All recipients of funding are mandated to submit a report at the conclusion of their first (and if applicable, second) year of funding. They are also required to present their work at a Network event titled “PhDs Go Public.” Additionally, all students, faculty, and collaborators must complete a questionnaire upon the conclusion of their funding or involvement. The evaluation of this pilot initiative will encompass a review of student dissertations, completion, and career outcomes.
